Todd and I woke up at just about the same time, and our wake up call was coming at 6:45a, but we left and checked out at 6:45a – we were not about to take a cab 10 blocks away, so we walked. We were to meet our tour guide on 51st and Broadway at the Cosi Restaurant. Oops I’m thinking now that I’m writing this that we walked more then 10 blocks, because our hotel was located on 33rd.
Sam, took this picture..he thought that big pile of bread was funny!!
We wanted to leave early, just in case something went wrong. I’m so blessed that we’re early morning people, or this would have never of happen. Our guide came outside the restaurant looking for his people. We got up and went inside, met our guide who’s name was Darrell. He was a pretty funny guy, tall and wore an orange hat, which was nice or we wouldn’t have been able to find him. I think we had 35 people in our tour and a lot of nice people. After he got our group together, we all walked like little school kids in a line, all we really needed was a rope to keep us together. We headed off to the subway…oh my gosh are you kidding me I thought? We’re getting on the subway in NY city!! Sam loved every minute of it.
He did mention that after we got to Liberty Island we’re on our own, we don’t have to stay together as a group. And told us all what way to go back and get off at what stop once we got on the subway. We met a couple who was on vacation without their children. She told Sam he was a lucky boy for his parents to bring him along. We told her he goes on every vacation with us as we always travel as a FAMILY. It’s not the parents and no kids or one parent with kids, it’s the 3 of us. I for the life of me would never leave my child behind while I’m or we’re having fun. We will always take a vacation as a family. Oops I remember one time in my life when I left Sam behind and for very good reason. Todd and I were dating just before we got married, and we flew to Los Vegas to see Elton John in concert and had a front row ticket and got his autograph. That was a life dream of mine to see Elton John and what a great time that was.
A few miscellaneous photos...
this is Darrell, our tour guide
Todd, felt the need to slap a bull!!
and this is our Group!!
this is Battery Park, Darrell said this building was used in the movie "Man in Black" with Will Smith
Anyway so we reach Liberty Island somewhere around 9:30, got a snack and I noticed in the distance as Sam and Todd couldn't’t see it, the Lady herself. Pictures are attached to this part of the story.
we're now taking the Ferry to Liberty Island
we are waiting to do our tour, here we go - started out by walking around first. Then we climbed up.
we are now climbing up inside her
we are now heading back down
I will add TV makes her look so big, but in person - she's really not all that big, but she sure is beautiful!
We did have tickets to also tour Ellis Island, but the 3 of us agreed we didn't want too, because it was so hot and we really wanted to leave NY before the traffic got too bad, that was an under statement..it didn't matter what time we left NY because traffic was bad no matter what.
So we took the subway on our own and heading back to the hotel to collect our one and only over night bag. We got back at around 1:33pm. We got our car and headed to PA for our week in the Poconos. on the subway heading back...
this is the lobby of our hotel...
We got to our villa around 4:15pm and it took forever to get checked in. Oh my gosh we ran into a problem and a big one at that. I'm documenting this trip so that I can print it out one day and save. So therefore that's the reason for going into so much detail so that we remember it...it is called our travel blog. The front desk clerk couldn't find Todd in the system. Long story short - back in March when he booked this place, he was declined a week or two later. RCI said they tired to reach Todd once in March and again in June. It's a complete mix up on the owner of the time share. After about 1.5 hrs later we're able to get into our pad and Todd needs to remove his Mother from the list and just have him and his Dad. Being his Dad and Mom are together, no need to have both listed. You know what I was thinking then, don't you?
we are ready for a much needed REST!! Tomorrow i'm sure it's going to be one lazy day!
